Curington Math Minute

 It was so great to see everyone's smiling faces this week as we began our 2022-2023 school year! Let's think about this week in numbers! We've spent three days at school this week. We start at 7:30 and leave at 3:00 so we spend 7.5 hours at school each day, which is 450 minutes. This week we've spent 22.5 hours at school, or 1,350 minutes at Curington! Next week will be a full week, will our total minutes at school increase or decrease? What about our hours? Will our total number of hours spent at school increase or decrease? Why? Thinking about little things like this in a matematical way can help us see that Math is really everywhere and plays a part in just about all that we do! So we can see how valuable and important it is to become more efficient in math! Have a great weekend!

 Students with dyslexia can often struggle in mathematics. Math is its own langauge of symbols and specific vocabulary, which can be especially difficult for students with dyslexia.  Math Mindset is a very important tool in the success or failure of our students. If students believe they "can't do math" then they will struggle more and have more challenges relating to mathematical learning. If students have a growth mindset in the area of mathematics, students are more likely to believe they can "do math" and can get better as they actively pursue mathematical knowledge.
